The first stop on this journey is the lovely village of Hollywood. Known for its connection with St. Kevin's of Glendalough, this charming village once witnessed the passage of many pilgrims on their way to the monastic settlement until the practice stopped in the early 1900s. It is believed that this village has given its name to the renowned Hollywood in California and has served as the set for multiple movies like "Dancing at Lughnasa!" starring Meryl Streep, and "Michael Collins" featuring Liam Neeson and Julia Roberts. You can't miss taking a picture with the iconic Hollywood sign before moving to the next stop.
As you drive along the 26 km street known as the Wicklow Gap Road, from Hollywood to Laragh, you'll enjoy some breathtaking views, as it's one of the only two routes that cross the Wicklow Mountains from east to west. Its spectacular landscapes have made it a beloved tourist spot. Make sure to have your camera ready for a photo-stop at Wicklow Gap before reaching our next destination.
The highlight of this trip is Glendalough, the "Valley of the Two Lakes", and its ancient monastic site. Founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century, enjoy a visit of this site walking through the ruins of the monastery and go inside the Glendalough Visitor Centre. Here, you can see an interesting exhibition and an audiovisual show. After this, your group will also have some time at leisure to immerse in the rich history and lovely nature surrounding you.
The return journey to Dublin will be equally enjoyable, as you'll drive through the village of Roundwood, with fantastic views over the Wicklow Mountains.
