Another World Entirely -Dublin Leprechaun Museum
We’re just back from a very entertaining – and educational – visit to the the National Leprechaun Museum.
The museum tells the story of the leprechaun, a mythical Irish character said to live stealthily in Ireland to this day. Along the way, we also learned about the fairy folk (called “sí”) and the great figures of Irish mythology such as Cúchulainn and Fionn Mac Cumhaill.
On the visit, we even walked underneath the Giant’s Causeway, through a rainbow and into the house of a giant!
A storyteller told us tales from Irish mythology and gave us useful tips for spotting fairy folk amongst us (spit on your hand before shaking theirs, they can’t stand dirty water), and relieving clever leprechauns of their crock of gold (don’t let him out of your sight!).
This isn’t an ‘exhibits behind glass’ museum, more of a ‘climb on the giant’s furniture and stick your hand down a magic fairy well’ kind of place. The Museum also has comprehensive educational packs and activity sheets for school groups.
There is a lovely sunny courtyard outside the Leprechaun Museum, where live traditional music is performed every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
What more could you want? Did you say discounted prices for groups? Then you’ve come to the right place – Celtic Group Hostels can book the Leprechaun Museum for your group at great rates – just give us a call, and we’ll spit and shake on it!
