GPO Witness History Exhibition in Dublin

Overview

Dublin’s GPO or General Post Office is not only one of Dublin’s most recognisable buildings on our main thoroughfare O’ Connell Street and a place of business where day to day Irish people buy their stamps and post their letters, it also has a symbolic significance because of the historic events which took place within its walls.

The GPO is known for it’s indelible association with the 1916 Rising and the events that led to the creation of an independent Irish state. This is the place where the 1916 Proclamation for Independence was read and many Irish men and women took a stand to gain independence for Ireland from the rest of the United Kingdom.

It is now home to the ‘GPO Witness History’ Exhibition where visitors can immerse in the events which helped shape the Irish Republic we now know today. The events during the 1916 Rising come to life through electronic touch screens, video, audio visual booths, sound and authentic artefacts – many previously unseen. It is an exhibition not to be missed during your group’s stay in Dublin!
