Riverdance the Gathering is here -Nashville watch out !
We are just so excited here at Celtic Group Hostels – we can’t wait to tell you all about this weekend’s Riverdance the Gathering and the World Record attempt. Since the launch of Riverdance in 1995 – Irish dancing has become famous the world over. Did you know that Riverdance has been seen live by over 23 million people across 350 venues worldwide, throughout 45 countries across 6 continents and played to a television audience of over 2 billion people around the world? – WOW!
So why are we so excited? What’s happening this weekend?
Firstly the longest Riverdance line World Record – the lowdown :
On Sunday 21st July at 12 o’ clock over 2,500 participants from all over the world will gather along the banks of Dublin’s River Liffey joined by the stars of Riverdance in this exciting event. They are gathering to break the world’s record of the longest Riverdance line. The current world record is held by Nashville, Tennessee, USA with 652 participants. We are set to smash this and bring the World record home to Dublin. How exciting…….. the music will be pumping, feet will be jigging, the craic will be mighty…. and the crowds will be cheering everyone on.
Our Group Operations Manager – Willemein has registered to take part and we just can’t wait to share her pictures and update you with history as it unfolds with this once in a life time event……. Watch out for an update on this post next week.
As well as the World Record on 21 July – there are a host of other events taking place this weekend as part of Riverdance the Gathering. Highlights include the following:
Saturday 20th July – At the Park and the Gathering Ceili : A fun day for all at Merrion Square and Park – music, dance and lots of entertainment for the younger ones ( bouncy castles, face painting, etc) Riverdancers will also be on hand to provide informal instruction for dancers of all abilities. From 3pm Riverdance the Gathering Ceili will kick off. The Ceili will be led by top Riverdancers and musicians and everyone will be able to attempt their own version of Riverdance (and practice of course for the Word Record on 21 July!)
