It’s that time of the year again when the Irish red carpet is dusted off and rolled out in preparation for the big event. We are of course talking about the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival. Now in its twelfth Year, ‘JDIFF’ is back this week. Read on for all of our top picks from this year’s line up…
If you are a fan of the big screen, there is no better time to be staying in Dublin. JDIFF is eleven days absolutely jam packed with cinematic goodness, from screenings to Q & A with filmmakers.
Over 120 films from all around the globe will be screened during the event. It kicks off with the opening gala at the Savoy cinema on Thursday 13th Feb, where the star-studied Irish film Calvary will be previewed.
The stars…
The stars are definitely out in force this year with Hollywood legends Terry Gilliam and Richard Dreyfuss as the guests of honour. If that isn’t enough Hollywood glamour for you, they are also throwing 90’s heart-throb, Jason Priestly into the mix, as he makes his directorial debut with his film Cas & Dylan.
Our ‘must sees’
20 feet from stardom- A moving documentary on the backing vocalists to the world’s biggest stars. With interviews from the likes of Mick Jagger, Stevie Wonder and Sting, this is our top pick.
Sun 23rd Feb – 11.00- Savoy Cinema
A touch of sin- Winner of best screen play at Cannes film festival, this gloomy portrayal of modern China by director Zhangke Jia, Can’t be missed.
Sat 22nd Feb – 20.15- Lighthouse Cinema
Calvary- Described as a ‘dark comic thriller’ and full to the brim with Irish stars. This film by director John Michael McDonagh is definitely a ‘Must see’.
Thurs 13th Feb -19.30- Savoy Cinema
Screenwriting with Peter Morgan (Workshop) – If you fancy yourself as the next top Hollywood screenwriter, Peter Morgan is hosting a master class in the art and revealing all of the industries secrets.
Sat 15th Feb – 11.00 – Lighthouse cinema
