Enjoy the Most Popular Irish Portal Tomb in the Burren's Rugged Landscape

Overview

The Poulnabrone Dolmen is rooted in the bleak and rocky landscape of the Burren as a firm reminder of Ireland's megalithic past. This portal tomb is estimated as being 4,500 years old and consists of slabs of rock arranged within an oval cairn.

Poulnabrone portal tomb is one of the most photographed megalithic monuments in Ireland, mainly due to its superb sculptured form and easy access from the road and the beautiful surroundings of the Burren.

When the tomb below the dolmen was excavated from 1986-1988, some interesting items were found among the people buried here: a polished stone axe, a bone pendant, quartz crystals as well as various other weapons and pottery. These findings can be seen at the Clare Museum in Ennis.

If your group is into geography and archaeology, there are many other tourist attractions we can offer your group, such as Caherconnell Stone Fort, Ailwee Cave or Doolin Cave. Contact us now to add them to your group trip!
